Delhi Summer ...hot hotter hottest

Winter is not as long as it should be
Spring has gone shorter than it used to be
But the stifling hot summer drags on....
endlessly.

Heat fumes and dust storms
create mirages of water pools at the end of every road,
Car tyres and foot prints sink in and get imprinted
as black tar melts on the roads,
Sweat trickles non stop
from every pore,
Every breath, hot air burns
through the face, body, mouth and nose.

Standing under the hot sun
I squint
as the hot blast of the sun flares
burn my red face
I look around
I wonder
am I standing next to a furnace?

Every summer, year after year,
as Delhi scorches through 48 degrees
I wonder....
how does common man survive
this blistering heat?

Shimmering Summer: Mirage formed around historical India Gate in New Delhi as the maximum temperature touched 41 degree Celsius - a whopping five degrees above normal temperature, on April 17, 2007.
