Hoverfly

Is it a wasp ?
Or is it a fly ?
It is a fly in a wasp's disguise
It is the beautiful 'Hover fly'

It can neither sting nor bite
but it can hover steady
like a copter in flight
If by chance it did choose to land on you
Just relax, observe and enjoy.

---------------------

Hoverflies are true flies or Diptera, also known as flower flies, with only one pair of wings. (Wasps and bees have two pairs.)
Many hoverflies have spots, bands or stripes of yellow or brown against a dark-coloured background, sometimes with dense hair covering the body surface (emulating furry bumblebees).

Hovering (like the helicopter) is their speciality.
