Antlion

The Antlion
with its mottled lace wings,
In feeble flutter
it shows up in the evenings,
Entrancing fashionistas
with its transparent lace dressing,

Hmmm...
The haute couture designs of tomorrow
just gotten more interesting!

------------

The antlion larvae eats mainly ants – while some adults eat small pollen and nectar, others are predators of small arthropods (ants) in the adult stage, too.
Since the larva preys primarily on ants, the antlion is, metaphorically speaking is a "lion" among ants.
Adult antlions resemble dragonflies or damselflies and, like damselflies.
Antlions are easily distinguished from by their longer, prominent, clubbed antennae and different type of wing venation. The adult is seldom seen in the wild because it is active only in the evening; during the day it rests, motionless, well-camouflaged by its transparent wings and dusk body.
